Sherazad Jamal

Sherazad Jamal was born in London, England to two proud Kenyan Khoja Ismaili Muslim parents. She immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1973. She has a BA (English Literature) and a Masters of Architecture. She is an interdisciplinary artist with over 25 years experience in the visual arts, architecture, creative writing, graphic design/magazine publishing, arts policy-making and artisan entrepreneurship.

Her work draws upon themes of cultural narrative, myth/spirituality/ritual, cultural diversity and the immigrant experience, social/gender issues and self-empowerment. Her skills rest in creatively fusing three dimensional forms, conceptual thinking, and narratives. As an educator, she draws upon her collaborative art practice and community art experiences to build an environment of trust, teamwork and openness to help youth of all ages express themselves.

She is one of the two co-founders of Rungh Magazine. Together, she and Zool Suleman produced the magazine from 1991 to 1997. Her contribution includes co-designing the Rungh look and feel with her design collaborative design team, editing, publishing, administration and distribution of Rungh Magazine.

She currently is the artisan maker/formulator/entrepreneur behind Free Lion Body Care, Ayurveda and Aromatherapy inspired body care products for people who want the wisdom of nature in their skin care.

When she is not busy connecting with people, designing a new object, digging in her garden, working on a up a new marketing plan or posting new product on her website, she can be found in her studio dreaming a new dream.
