Helena Martin Franco
Versión en español | Version française
Helena Martin Franco is an artist from the Caribbean region of Colombia who has lived and worked in Montréal since 1998. She holds an MFA from Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Université du Québec à Montreal. Technology has enabled Martin Franco to maintain her activism practice in Colombia through two collectives focused on art dissemination: Redhada (red de mujeres artistas del Caribe colombiano), and CAVCA (Comunidad de Artistas Visuales de Cartagena y Bolívar). In 2011, she also co-founded the Montréal-based collective L’Araignée. Helena’s transdisciplinary practice explores mixing traditional technique and new technologies. Through autofiction, she sheds light on the porousness of identity in the context of migration. Her work has been presented in the Dominican Republic, Spain, New Zealand, Colombia, the USA, Cuba, Iran, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Argentina, Canada, and in artist-run centres throughout Québec.
